How to do it

  1. Step onto the pedals and hold the handles lightly for balance, or hold the moving arm handles for a full-body version.
  2. Stand tall with a neutral spine; do not lean on the console or hunch over the handles.
  3. Drive the pedals in a smooth elliptical path at a steady, sustainable cadence.
  4. Keep your core braced and your steps quiet and controlled rather than bouncing on the pedals.
  5. Push through the whole foot on each stride, and mirror the effort evenly between both legs.
  6. Slow the pace gradually before stepping off rather than stopping abruptly.
