Sumo Deadlift High Pull

How to do it

  1. Stand with feet wider than shoulder width, toes turned slightly out, barbell over mid-foot.
  2. Hinge at the hips and bend the knees to grip the bar just inside the knees, back flat, chest up.
  3. Drive through the heels to lift the bar, extending the hips and knees together.
  4. As the bar passes the knees, extend explosively and shrug hard, pulling the bar upward with high, flared elbows.
  5. Pull the bar to roughly chest height, elbows above the wrists, then reverse the motion under control back to the floor.
