Z Press

How to do it

  1. Set a barbell in a rack at about shoulder height while seated on the floor, or clean a light bar into position.
  2. Sit on the floor with your legs extended straight in front of you and unrack the bar so it rests across your upper chest with a grip just outside shoulder width.
  3. Sit tall with your chest up, core braced, and back straight. There is no back support, so keep your torso rigid throughout. This will be your starting position.
  4. Press the bar straight overhead until your arms are locked out, pulling your head back slightly to let the bar pass, then bringing it in line with your shoulders and hips.
  5. Lower the bar under control back to your upper chest as you inhale.
  6. Repeat for the recommended amount of repetitions without leaning back or letting your lower back round.
